What it does: Emirates Post Group provides postal services and global remittance solutions within the UAE.

Best known for: its quality postal and non-postal services in the Middle East.

The good bits: high-quality training opportunities; reportedly good work-life balance and respectful workplace.

The not so good bits: issues with senior management, issues with restructuring, long work hours.

Emirates Post Group story

Emirates Post Group was founded in August 1909 and was initially managed and operated by the Indian Post Office Service until 1947, when India gained independence. After the formation of the UAE in 1972, postal services were created under the Ministry of Communication as the General Directorate of Postal Services.

Later in the year 2007, the UAE government formed Emirates Post Group with its affiliate companies including Empost, EDC, Emirates Post and Wall Street Exchange.

Emirates Post currently manages its postal services through a network of 115 post offices across the UAE. The group aims to extend quality postal as well as non-postal services to its customers at international standards through utilising its high calibre team.

In the postal category, Emirates Post Group provides domestic and global express deliveries, personalised mailing services, courier solutions and instant money transfers. Emirates Post Group also provides non-postal services including bill payment, travel, financial services and more.

The recruitment process

The hiring process of the group is simple. Whenever a position becomes vacant, it is advertised on the website as well as in print media. Once the application deadline ends, the company shortlists candidates for an interview. An important feature of Emirates Post Group’s selection process is that instead of rejecting the job applications, their HR team keeps the candidates’ information on file and they are contacted once any position relevant to their skills arises.

Depending on the position, a written test is arranged for the short-listed candidates, followed by an initial interview with the HR team.

Once the first round of interviews is over, candidates can expect a second, final interview with a director and a member of the HR team.

New graduates attend a preliminary training course to understand the company culture and operations.

Career prospects

Emirates Post Group is said to offer strong career growth prospects to its high performing employees, with a preference for internal promotions. Freshers report that it’s a good place to start your career. Emirates Post Group frequently conducts training to enable its employees to upgrade skills via these programs, launched by industry experts and professionals.

Remuneration

The salary offered to newly appointed graduates at Emirates Post Group is market competitive. According to recent research, it is said that the group hires graduates at a yearly starting salary of AED180,000, depending on skills and experience. The company also pays medical and yearly bonuses amounting to AED25,000 or higher once the worker climbs the ladder.

The culture

Employees report that Emirates Post Group is a friendly and respectful place to work, which offers good work-life balance. There are mixed reports about senior management, with some employees reporting positive experiences and others reporting that management could take greater care with implementing feedback from employees.

The Group inspires their employees with quality art, not displayed in a museum but within the office premises where they work. The company executives have planned the office building in such a manner to create space to display artwork in staircases, meeting rooms, restaurants and lobbies, for the benefit of workers and customers.

Social contributions

The Emirates Post Group’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives won accolades at various national and global levels. The group received the 10th CSR Summit and Awards 2018 for its contribution in the areas of health, environment, education and community development and initiating sustainable projects. It should be kept in mind that the company undertakes CSR initiatives either as an individual entity or through government or non-government organisations.

Recently, the company earmarked $5 Million for provision of health care facilities in remote villages of Zambia and Sudan.

The vibe of the place

The Emirates Post Group is said to be a professional, respectful place to work. Expect good quality training, opportunities for advancement but keep in mind that you may be required to work long hours or experience challenges with management.
