The Doordash Canada Story 

Doordash was founded in January 2013 by Tony Xu, Stanley Tang, Andy Fang, and Evan Moore and was launched as PaloAltoDelivery.com. In the summer of 2013, PaloAltoDelivery received $120,000 in seed money from Y Combinator for a 7% stake. 

PaloAltoDelivery became Doordash in June 2013. They continued to improve their technology, becoming the second-placed food delivery sales company in the United States. 

By 2015, Doordash expanded to the international market, launching in Toronto. Currently, Doordash is available in more than 50 Canadian cities, constantly expanding its operations with cutting-edge technology daily.

Recruitment Process

In a dynamic world, there are two constants in Doordash’s recruitment; equal employment opportunities and an all-inclusive recruitment process. Doordash’s recruitment process focuses on building skills, a winning work culture, and giving employees a feeling of family. 

Doordash’s recruitment commences with graduates and interns creating a tailored resume, choosing a programming language, and preparing for coding interviews. 

All submitted resumes are considered and ones that meet the minimum requirements are shortlisted for interviews. Doordash graduates and interns undertake around 8 interview rounds. 

The first set of interviews include:

  • Prescreen interviews with a recruiter and 
  • Technical exercises

These interviews prepare graduates and internship applicants for on-site personalized interviews. 

Graduate and internship applicants that complete the first set of interviews are invited for on-site interviews. The on-site interviews include:

  • The hiring manager interview
  • System design interviews (1-2 rounds) 
  • Coding interviews (2-3 rounds) 

After completing all interview rounds, Doordash’s hiring team makes a hiring decision. Shortlisted graduate and internship candidates are then offered employment and onboarded with Doordash’s best practices.

Controversies 

In 2019, Doordash suffered a major security breach where over 4.9 million users, drivers, and merchants had their personal information stolen. Doordash refused to put a number to the number of Canadian users affected by this breach.

Doordash claimed the hackers did not get enough information to make fraudulent charges or withdrawals. They also encouraged users to change their passwords while they tightened security around the company
